I've always loved tiny birdhouses on pedestals.
Awhile back, I found an unfinished birdhouse at the craft store for a dollar, and it's just been sitting on my desk waiting for me to find a wood candlestick for the pedestal. Last week I finally scored one at the thrift store and made my own pedestal birdhouse.
Cost: less than $3.00!

I painted the birdhouse and candlestick with homemade linen white chalk paint, distressed them a little, and then waxed them with dark paste wax. I printed and mounted the tag on some sturdy mat board, dark waxed it too, for good measure, and tied it onto the pedestal with some twine.
And here they sit on my front porch with some flowers.
I'm super happy to have a little pedestal birdhouse of my own now...
...but guess what I saw on Pinterest today?
Now THAT's a pedestal birdhouse!!

You did such a great job on the birdhouse. I have 5 small (2 on pedestals)1 med and 1 large unfinished bird houses just waiting for some one to help them! You have inspired me and hopefully when the weather is nicer I will get some of them painted.

their sweet.

Laurel, I love your pedestal birdhouse! The white is so pretty and I adore that tag. It's so crazy what white paint can do to a thrift store candlestick. My Mom's decor is kind of cottagy with birdhouses so I'm going to have to make her one now. Your pics made me ooh and ahh they're so pretty! That first photo should be in Country Living or BH&G magazine. Can't beat that awesome price either. ~ Jamie
ReplyDeleteThat is sweet, Laurel! Birdhouses on pedestals always get a second look from me. I don't know what it is about them. Love that one you found on Pinterest. That is huge!
ReplyDeleteNice job Laurel! Any teeny-tiny bird would be pleased to find it's home inside your adorable birdhouse!
ReplyDeleteDarling little project...thanks for sharing it at my party.

Hi Laurel! I love how you've incorporated one of my printable tags into your pretty display :) You're a woman after my own heart... always looking for bargains at craft & thrift stores... great idea to pull it all together :)
ReplyDeleteMegan @ Lilac & Lavender
oh how smart! I'm totally going to imitate (totally copy!) you and hopefully mine will turn out almost as cute as yours! thanks for the summer inspiration!
ReplyDeleteHi Laurel,
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you found my blog, I have enjoyed seeing yours. You have done some great projects. I especially like this one. The birdhouse on a pedestal has given me a good idea. I have one that was nailed to a tree and it has fallen off, but I could put it on a candle holder that I already have and it would be so pretty again. Thanks so much.
Have a wonderful day.
Hugs, Cindy

But I have always felt mine were missing something. Thanks so much for the inspiration. I love the tags. They are perfect for the birdhouse. Visiting from Vintage Inspiration Friday. #155
Laurel I love your sweet little birdhouse. I used to make very similar ones for my markets some time ago and they were always quick to sell. I think we do like projects even more when they feel like a bargain or a good thrifted price :)
ReplyDeleteI'd love it if you'd consider sharing this at Shabbilicious Friday ~ http://shabbyartboutique.blogspot.com.au/2012/06/shabbilicious-friday-link-party-86.html
