Vintage 4th of July Art and Tags

For 4th of July this year I used vintage art to make tags for patriotic napkin rings.

I printed the vintage art out on my printer, cut it out, and then glued it onto stiff mat board. I left the tags under some heavy books to dry overnight. The next day, I glittered the edges with either gold, silver, red, or blue glitter.

I cut some strips of leftover red, white, and blue fabric from my bunting with pinking shears and hot glued the center of the strips to the back of the tags. Then I just tied the fabric strips around some accordion-folded cloth napkins.

I used my HP printer and ink with no bleeding, but you should test your own printer's ink for colorfastness or use toner based prints for your projects.

If you make a project with this vintage art, I'd love to see what you create. If you have time, please drop back with a comment and a link to your project.

  1. Laurel, Your napkin rings are so cute! I adore old vintage postcards. I really like all the 4th if July themed projects that you've been doing. Your yard and tablescape look amazing! Have a wonderful Independence Day!! ~ Jamie

  2. Oh, Laurel! What a great idea, and the designs you used are so nostalgic. I love the look of them, esp. with the glittered edges. I have often printed using ink jet because that's just what I have, but what a pain. I mod podge over the designs to keep them from running so easily, but even using that is tricky, esp. when the ink has red in it. I've really enjoyed seeing what you create. Here is a link to some of the retro/vintage tags I've done: http://imageremix.blogspot.com/2012/04/retrovintage-beachy-tags-cards.html

Thanks too for coming by Quirky Vistas and leaving your kind words. It's much appreciated.
